Before I had a doctorate, I was selling mixtapes. And study guides. And DirecTV inside Sam's Club. I was a Coke Zero cheerleader on my college campus (yes, really). I mentored high schoolers, taught myself video editing, managed a rental property, did career coaching, and taught as an adjunct professor.
Some of those were public health. Most of them weren't. None of them were glamorous. All of them taught me something I now use to run a business.
Then in 2022 — while still working my full-time public health job — I started a consulting firm. Within 30 days, I landed a $40,000 contract. Within a year, I had earned $135,000 on the side. Then I built The Public Health Club, where 900+ public health professionals are now figuring out their own paths.
